This is a more personal blog this week, we have had some interesting news about Bam Bam which requires some serious thought and consideration.
For those following our journey, you may be aware that we got Bam in April 2023 with several issues we have been working on. She came to me having a considerable amount of time off and some behaviour issues we have been slowly working through and trying to find the cause of.
When I viewed Bam I noticed she was a bit touchy about being rugged and tacked up. Once I got her home we started work with the Oesto and saddler to rule out any problems in those departments.
Whilst this work was underway we were trying to get ahold of Bam’s previous medical records. At the beginning of January 2024, we finally got ahold of her veterinary history and it wasn’t the best news. She had had numerous bouts of colic, previously had hock and SI injections, multiple x-rays and the list goes on.
After consulting with my vets and discovering she wasn’t covered by insurance, we have now started attempting to fix her on a very limited budget. Bam’s hocks should have been having regular injections, unfortunately, her last one appears to be in 2017. Our vet believes that this soreness has caused ulcers which is likely why is reactive when rugging and tacking up.
So, what’s next?
The first plan of action is to tackle the ulcers. After a bit of research, we are going to try the Ponease ULC Fix* first and if we have no results try the medication options from the vet. Once the ulcers are addressed, we will start hock injections again.
*Ponease ULC Fix is not an affiliate link or sponsored. Just heard good reviews and praying it works.
Fingers crossed, these treatments should do the trick. Looking at Bam’s history, the vet believes this is the most likely cause of her discomfort. Should she still be uncomfortable, we will have to reassess the situation.
Come on Bam Bam ❤
