It’s been a scorcher here in the UK, and with the heat showing no signs of stopping, we’ve shifted most of our riding to the evenings, much cooler and far more enjoyable for everyone involved!
The girls have moved onto their summer paddocks and are now living out 24/7. We’re using strip-grazing to manage the grass, which seems to be working well so far (though I’m sure Daisy would happily disagree if she had a say!).
With holidays in May, June, and another one planned for July, it’s been a fairly easy-going summer for the horses. They’ve been ticking over nicely, getting plenty of rest with just enough work to keep things ticking along.
Dippy’s coming along beautifully. We’ve been keeping up with her bi-weekly lessons, and there’s been real progress, especially in her canter under saddle. On the lunge, we’ve been focusing on transitions and she’s getting more balanced and responsive each session. It’s been so rewarding to see her grow in confidence.
Daisy came into spring looking the best she ever has – a really ideal weight – so now the challenge is keeping her that way! With all the grass we have, we’re keeping a close eye on that growing belly and adjusting her work accordingly to keep her trim and happy.
That’s all from us for now, a summer of steady progress, sunshine, and making the most of the long evenings. Here’s hoping the lovely weather sticks around (just maybe a little cooler now and then, please!).
